**** I set off from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, in July 2011, zig-zagged across America, and ended up in Aspen, Colorado, in February 2012. Along the way I visited 28 states, three countries, dozens of national parks, hundreds of cities and towns, and countless friends and strangers. I'd lost my job of seven years, my apartment burned down while I was out of town for a weekend, and I ditched a toxic dude. You'd probably hit the road, too. ![I’m back in Aspen, and, while it was bittersweet to leave my family and dear friends after such a short, unexpected stint, I couldn’t be more thrilled to be in the Colorado mountains again. The landscape turned GOLD in the week that I was away.
I’m not alone. Messaged a party pal and recent mountain transplant who returned to her native state of Missouri for a long weekend:
“I just landed in KC and I miss Aspen already!”
This place seems to have that effect on people. It’s good to be here, it feels like home.
